Evaluating Alternative Models for Power System Dynamic Stability Studies

R.T.H. Alden and P.J. Nolan, PAS 95, No.2, March/April 1976, pp 433-440

A dynamic stability model for detailed stability studies on synchronous power system is presented in such a form that it can be systematically reduced to models of reduce complexity. The complete model include representation of stator and network transient effect as well as shaft torsinal oscillation effects. The family of models of reduced complexity span the range of models found in the literature. The general approach is applied to test cases where the effects of modeling complexity are investigated.
